I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, surrounded by all the historical colonial sites and the glorious beauty of Walden Pond, where I took swimming lessons at six years of age. My earliest recollection of how art is created and interpreted began around the same time when I would ride the train into Boston’s North Station with my “Gramps,” Maxwell Kramer, to his work place at A&P stores where he was employed as a sign painter/design consultant for nearly 50 years. Spending countless hours in the “sign room” with Max was a dream come true. I still have the camel hair brushes he used at Harvard University.
As a product of the 1960’s cultural movement, I became uniquely aware of the expressionism going on in music and art with greats like Hendrix, Warhol and Dali. I would spend free time going to museums and concerts soaking in all of the inspiration. I was just beginning my studies in art school when my mentor passed away. Our family moved to the Hollywood, Florida, area in the mid 1960’s but Massachusetts was always my home. I enrolled at Framingham State University to study fine art and art history, and later attended Fort Lauderdale Art Institute and University of Tampa for general studies.
I find a lot of relaxing enjoyment in painting, usually the resulting transformation of another hobby – photography. My other love is surfing. It brought me to live in the Jensen Beach area in 1979 where the azure blue waves have a mystical allure. Martin County has since been my home for over 40 years.
Eventually, I married my best friend and love of my life, Martha, and we were blessed with one child, Jaqueline Mary, a daughter who has exceeded our every dream. My legacy and Maxwell’s now live on in two beautiful grandchildren.
