Helping People Succeed’s Maria Velasco is the Family Support Worker of the Year for Healthy Families Florida, an evidence-based voluntary home visiting program that is proven to prevent child abuse and neglect in Florida’s highest risk families. She is one of more than 350 workers serving families in the State of Florida.
A 10-year employee at Helping People Succeed, Velasco works intensively with an average of 28-30 families each year in Martin County, which includes families from Hobe Sound and Indiantown to Jensen Beach. Many of her participants stay in the Healthy Families program for four years or more.

Helping People Succeed has coordinated its first meeting of the newly-formed Autism Program Council, comprised of community leaders, autism specialists and family members affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Recently, the Center for Disease Control reported that one in 68 children will be diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder each year. Four out of five diagnosed will be boys.

Bliss Browne, the founder and president of Imagine Chicago, has joined the board of Helping People Succeed and is serving on the non-profit organization’s Marketing Committee.
A mother of three, she served as a Division Head for the First National Bank of Chicago for 16 years. Her life in Chicago included numerous civic duties, from serving as Chairman of the Center for Neighborhood Technology and the Chicago Ethics Coalition to membership on the Community Advisory board of the Chicago Historical Society, the Illinois Governor’s Public-Private Child Care Council and the Saguaro Seminar on Civic Engagement in America, convened by Robert Putnam at the Kennedy School of Harvard University, that recognized national innovators in developing social capital.

Kevin Burn, a Private Banking Officer for Seacoast National Bank in its Main Office on Colorado Avenue, has joined the Operating Board of Helping People Succeed.
A resident of the Treasure Coast for the past six years, Burn has worked for Seacoast for two years and has been in the finance services industry for eight years. He has handled areas of insurance, investments, retirement planning and banking, both on the business and personal sides.
